McLaren Automotive, the British manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sportscars and supercars, is expanding its Super Series product family with the introduction of a second new model under the £1.2bn Track25 business plan and its most accomplished convertible supercar ever: the new 720S Spider.
The design foundations of the new McLaren Spider are the seamless and organic forms introduced in 2017 with the 720S Coupé. Combining to maximise downforce, minimise drag, enhance powertrain cooling and optimise aerodynamic performance, these shapes produce an overall appearance akin to a futuristic sculpture, formed by the air that flows over, under, around and through it. A new, electrically actuated Retractable Hard Top (RHT) is seamlessly integrated into the design, as are new buttresses.
The 720S Spider is an out-and-out, class- leading supercar and a pure open top cruiser in one. Perfectly balanced, totally undiluted and unveiled at McLaren Manchester this February...
Attendees gathered at the new, luxury showroom in Wilmslow with Super Series Product Specialist, Shane Harman, launching the next generation of McLaren Technology.
The formalities began with a welcome from Sales Manager of McLaren Manchester, Marcus Snee before handing over to Shane who presented guests with a presentation, highlighting the impressive features and statistics of the 720S Spider, including the maintained 360 degree visibility and minimal weight gain, leading the field at 88kg lighter than it's nearest competitor.
The carbon fibre Retractable Hard Top (RHT) also sets McLaren apart from the rest as in just 11 seconds it had stowed itself in near silence. Operated by no fewer than eight electric motors working in parallel as the roof retracts, it operates at up to 50km/h (30mph)
Along with the stunning aesthetics, the M840T engine is a 4.0-litre V8 unit with twin scroll turbochargers for enhanced response and blistering performance. 720PS and 770Nm of torque behind you delivering 0-200km/h (124mph) in a best in class 7.9 seconds. Every engine part has been analysed and refined to maximise power, sharpen response and increase fuel efficiency .
Once the presentation was over there was plenty to peruse with stands from McLaren Affinity Partners providing a variety of luxury experiences, in keeping with the brand.
Boodles Jewellers, based in Manchester provided a pop-up cabinet of beautiful diamonds, watches, necklaces and rings for guests to explore from their signature ranges.
Charles Mitchell Wines provided the finest wine tasting, along with Eden Luxury Travel and Simon Dunn Chocolatier also displaying their offerings for the guests to enjoy.
World-renowned Paul Oz is the go-to artist for all motorsport art having worked with many of the F1 teams, drivers and team principals personally. His work is displayed in all the F1 Paddock Clubs around the world on race weekends. In a project spanning some 8 months from concept to creation using a number of world-first techniques, the bronzes have been crafted by the World's leading bronze foundry, Wiltshire-based Pangolin. Paul originally created three life-sized works unveiled at Autosport 2019 each weighing over 160kg. One of them has pride of place at McLaren's Technology Centre in Woking.
Through the affinity partnership between McLaren Manchester, Serenity Designs Knutsford and Attitude Gallery there is one of the F1 Win editions currently on display. The piece on display is actually sold but orders are being taken from this. Paul was aiming to leave the piece for around 2-3 weeks before it heads off to it's permanent home.
A percentage of profits achieved from the sale of this bronze through McLaren Manchester will be donated by Serenity Designs to the Seashell Trust.
